If you are curious about the new C.B. Robison middle grade title in the works, here is a teaser from the first chapter:

“Are you ready for what is coming?” a voice said.

Benjamin jumped and dropped the book. In front of him stood a very short man with so many wrinkles it made Benjamin think of a prune. He looked ancient. Where did this man come from? He hadn’t noticed him at the middle school before. Then again, he didn’t usually go to the library.

“Ready for what?” Benjamin asked.

“You will see. Soon.” the man said, the wrinkles puckering around his eyes as he smiled. His voice had a strange accent that Benjamin couldn’t place. In fact, something about him was just strange.

Benjamin frowned as he crouched down to pick up the book. “I’m just trying to pick a world event for my history project.”

But the book was not there. Instead the ground was now covered with dirt and tall meadow grass. He looked up at the man standing over him, and the library was gone. Snow-capped mountains towered on both sides of Benjamin and the little old man. A cool breeze rustled his hair.

“What the–?” Benjamin yelped, his head flipping from side to side. His heart began to hammer. This isn’t possible.

Somehow Benjamin now crouched on the floor of a mountain valley with large boulders, occasional pine trees, and tall meadow grasses. Air that smelled of grass and soil replaced the stuffy library smell. Wildflowers swayed in the breeze, brushing his clothing. They couldn’t be real, but he reached out to touch their delicate tops to find out. The tiny flowers flittered against his skin. He could actually feel the breeze tickle the back of his neck. A bird chirped from behind him and flew overhead. Benjamin’s mouth fell open. He was really here, wherever that was.
